Caeruloplasmin Immunoturbidimetric Assay manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics

Caeruloplasmin is a copper containing enzyme involved in iron metabolism. Copper is obtained from the diet, it is absorbed in the intestine and transported to the liver where it is stored or used to make a variety of enzymes. In the liver copper is bound to apocaeruloplasmin to form caeruloplasmin which is then released into the blood stream. The majority of the copper in the blood is bound to ceruloplasmin. Caeruloplasmin can be used with other copper test to help diagnose Wilson's disease and evaluate copper metabolism. Low levels of caeruloplasmin can occur in Menkes' syndrome, nephrotic syndromes and in some cases of advanced liver disease.

The Sentinel Diagnostics Caeruloplasmin assay uses an immunoturbidimetric method. In the presence of polyethylenglycole polymer (PEG) and at optimal pH the anti-caeruloplasmin polyclonal antiserum in the reagent will bind caeruloplasmin in the assay sample. This result in the formation of an immuno-complex increasing solution turbidity as measured at 340nm. The increase in turbidity is proportional to the amount of caeruloplasmin in the assayed sample.

These Caeruloplasmin reagents are ready-to-use R1: 2x50ml, R2:1x8ml and have an open vial stability of 120 days when stored at 2-8C. The assay can be performed on serum or plasma (heparin, EDTA) and has a range of 5-90 mg/dL. The recommended calibrator for this assay is the Plasmaproteins Calibrator 11200D and the suggested QCs are the Immunocontrol Set 11211A.
