Company Volunteering

Throughout the year, Alpha engages with a number of social opportunities – please see our community page for more information.

Through our community connections we invite our staff to participate in a range of volunteering opportunities. Some of our departments use this as a team building activity, encouraging staff to get out the office and participate in the local community as well as connecting with their peers.

Employee Supported Volunteering

Alpha Laboratories Ltd is committed to supporting the community and encouraging employees to engage in volunteer activities.

We understand that employees are a vital part of their communities and the standard working week limits interactions and opportunities to get involved within the community.

Our Employee Supported Volunteering scheme provides employees with the opportunity to take time off to contribute to causes they care about within their communities. This applies to all permanent employees, including full-time and part-time staff. Staff are entitled to take up to 3 days of volunteering activities and 1 day for a medical donation, in addition to their holiday allowance.

Days can be taken one at a time or all at once, allowing employees to have flexibility within their volunteering opportunities.

To date employees have engaged with several different organisations and activities:

  • Local council tree planting days

  • Seasonal charity shop work

  • Coastal watch volunteering.

  • Buddy schemes for those with disabilities

  • Chaperone for local schools

Social Compliance and Code of Conduct

Alpha Laboratories' overriding principle is to act in a responsible and ethical manner in all areas of business and social accountability, and to respect the rights and dignity of all employees. We expect our values to be followed by our staff and our external business partners.

Non Discrimination

In all aspects of employment we do not discriminate on the basis of age, nationality, race, religion, social, ethnic or sexual orientation, gender or disability or otherwise. We expect our business partners to do the same.

Wages and Benefits

We comply with or exceed, and expect our business partners to comply with, all applicable minimum wage rates, or, if no minimum exists, prevailing industry wage rates. Similarly we comply with or exceed mandatory benefits and expect our business partners to do the same.

Working Hours

Our employees are not required to work, including overtime, more than the maximum number of hours per week established by laws and regulations. Breaks and days off fully comply with applicable law. We expect our business partners to comply with local laws in this respect.

Health and Safety

We and our business partners shall maintain a clean, safe, healthy and secure workplace in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Adequate steps shall be taken to prevent accidents and injury so far as is reasonably possible, and workers must be provided with appropriate safety training and equipment.

Child and Forced Labour and Disciplinary Practices

We do not use, nor do we condone the use of, workers under the minimum legal working age in any country and we expect proof of age to be kept. Nor do we condone or use any form of forced or involuntary labour.

All applicable laws and regulations regarding working hours for minors must be followed. Furthermore, physical or verbal harassment or intimidation in order to discipline or coerce employees will not be tolerated.

Slavery, Servitude or Human Trafficking

We are committed to acting ethically and we have a zero tolerance to any form of modern slavery. We have a duty of care to ensure that modern slavery or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain. Read our Modern Slavery Statement
