Trace Elements
Trace elements are substances that the body requires in tiny amounts on a regular basis for normal function. These micronutrients are typically absorbed through the diet and used to produce enzymes and hormones.
Tests may be used to investigate suspected deficiencies or excess. Some conditions may be the result of hereditary metabolic disorders, such a the copper accumulation observed in Wilson Disease or iron overload in hereditary haemochromatosis. Some disorders may arise from poor diet or as a complication of other conditions, such as alcoholism associated zinc deficiency. Sentinel Diagnostics offer direct colorimetric assays for Copper, Iron and Zinc with no-deproteinisation step, improving workflow.
