Supporting Local Environmental Projects

Alpha Laboratories is actioning sustainability commitments by investing and engaging staff within the local environmental and actively working to create positive impacts on the planet.

Alpha Woods

In 2022, Alpha worked in collaboration with the Hampshire Countryside Service and Hampshire County Council to form part of the Queens Green Canopy. This unique initiative sought to commemorate Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee through a nationwide tree planting scheme.

Volunteers from Alpha teamed up with the local working group to plant 75 oak trees at a local reserve in Warsash, near the River Hamble. Over 50% of the company actively took part in the tree planting sessions, activities ranged from the tree planting and guard building, to distributing mulch around the new trees for some extra nutrients.

This site is particularly important to the local area, being a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designated and a key site for migrating Brent Geese. The new trees will support the habitat as the older trees (estimated to be over 500 years old) succumb to old age. These trees are expected to sequester approximately 100,000Kg of carbon over the next century.

Alpha Beach Clean

In 2024, Alpha engaged in its first corporate beach clean.

Following guidelines from the Marine Conservation Society, staff took part in a litter survey and beach clean at a local beach near Lee-on-the-Solent.

Staff found a variety of litter at the site, from sweet wrappers and small toys to broken pieces of plastic and fishing rope. This type of activity helps instil awareness of our impact on the planet and importance of taking responsibility for our activities and waste.

Franchises Woods

In 2023, Alpha donated to the construction of a large polytunnel at Franchises Wood – an RSPB managed site in the New Forest.

This polytunnel will help with the growing of young sapling trees during the first year of their lives, once old enough the trees propagated from the site itself will be planted amongst its parents within the forest.

The site of the polytunnel is adjacent to Cameron’s Cottage, an outdoor residential conservation learning centre for young adults (part of the Camerons Bespolka Trust), helping connect, educate, and engage young people with nature conservation and science.
