Achieving Net Zero & Our Carbon Footprint

Alpha Laboratories Ltd commits to reach net-zero by 2045.

Achieving Net Zero

As the climate crisis worsens, Alpha Laboratories understands it must make changes within its operations and business conduct.

We believe moving towards a more sustainable future for all is important to ensuring a strong and healthy planet. We have developed the following target to reflect the importance of change and remain accountable for our impact.

Alpha Laboratories Ltd commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 60% by 2034 from a 2022 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. Alpha Laboratories Ltd commits to reach net-zero by 2045. As part of this, it commits to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions 95% by 2045 from a 2022 base year.

We are proud to have our near-term and Net Zero targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Re-enforcing the company’s belief in our sustainability goals as we strive towards an achievable, better and more sustainable future for our industry.

Our 2034 goal relates to emissions sourced from:

  • Natural Gas

  • Electricity

  • Company vehicles

  • Refrigerant gases

Energy efficiency audits completed in the baseline year have identified the key opportunities to reduce the company’s impact and emissions. Since baseline year Scope 1 and 2 emissions Alpha have already reduced over 20% of its direct emissions in under 4 years.

All other emissions sources are measured with goals to reduce by 95% by 2045. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Business Travel

  • Waste

  • Procurement activities

  • Employee Commute and Homeworking

To meet our science-based net-zero targets we require collaboration and support from suppliers. Ensuring we remain accountable for our impact and report our emissions accurately, focusing on the most impactful areas of our carbon footprint. We encourage all stakeholders to align with climate science and commit to setting a science-based 1.5°C and net-zero target.

Our Carbon Footprint

Our latest Carbon Footprint covers our 2025 financial year (1st January 2025 to 30th September 2025), this 9-month financial year reflects our realignment to our new parent company – Diploma PLC. With a shorter financial year in 2025, we expected a larger decrease in emissions and anticipate an increase for the next financial year as we return to a 12-month annual comparison.

Since our 2021/22 baseline year Alpha has decreased overall emissions by 51%. Scope 1 and 2 emissions have seen a decrease of 53%, all categories have seen a decrease in emissions since the baseline year. To better analyse our footprint, in the last 2 financial years we have split the EV vehicle consumption data from the electricity data as per Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidelines.

Overall, Alphas scope 3 emissions have decreased by 51% since baseline reporting and accounts for 99% of the total emissions for 2025. Procurement of goods (non-saleable and saleable) make up for 68% of the total emissions, we saw a decrease of 22% compared to the 2024 financial year. This year we undertook further data collection of inbound freight emissions, making up 14.7% of the total emissions – we expect this to increase as we further data collection into Alphas outbound freight emissions.

All Carbon Footprint data is collected in line with ISO 14064-1 and the Greenhouse Gas protocol. By aligning with these guidelines, we can record data in a robust system which is adaptable as we increase the accuracy of our collection methodology. This is supported by our third-party verification completed on our Carbon Footprint in line with ISO 14064-3.

Carbon Reduction Projects

  • Electricity
Aligning with goals from Diploma PLC – Alpha look to become 100% electric in the next several years. We have begun assessing areas to reduce natural gas usage across the business, further electrifying our internal systems.

  • Waste Disposal
Alpha continues to review more efficient waste streams for items such as donating IT equipment to local charities.

  • Renewable Energy

An internal review of our solar usage has begun to assess opportunities for improvement within both generation and storage of solar energy.
