Wakogel® B Series silica gel carriers are widely used for creation of Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) plates for separation of acid or neutral substances. The filler is end-capped after chemical bonding of ODS (octadecyl) group to the surface of silica gel. It is a suitable reversed-phase silica gel for middle to large scale purification/preparative isolation. It has narrow particle size distribution and can be used to separate and isolate at high flow rate.
Neutral substances with one or two functional groups are developed in a single or mixed solvent system by using an activated thin layer. When the sample is an organic base a small amount of ammonia or diethylamine is added to the eluent. To separate and acid compound a small amount of acetic acid is added. When an eluent contains water, Wakogel is mixed with water to form a thin layer. There is no need to heat after drying for activation.
