Geosmin Standard produced by FUJIFILM Wako Chemical Corporation
The mouldy odour produced by environmental pollution in rivers and lakes is due to metabolic products of various abnormally proliferated actinomyces and algae. Geosmin in particular is considered to be most responsible for offensive odours in tap water because it has a strong earthy odour (or mouldy odour) in a trace amount. It develops, when a trace amount is dissolved in water, an offensive odour at 40 to 50 degrees C even at a concentration as low as 0.01 to 0.05 ppb.
Ozonolysis and activated charcoal processing have been examined as methods for eliminating this offensive odour in water, and the analytical method gas chromatography is also being discussed. Wako supply geosmin reference standard and geosmin standard solution as the reference standards used in these tests.
This product has been synthesized and is guaranteed by GC, MS, NMR and IR. The standard is intended as a reference for analysis of geosmin.
