ScreenFect™ A is a transfection agent for use with DNA or siRNA. It combines high transfection efficiency with low cell toxicity - no need to change media after transfection. The transfection properties of ScreenFect A were discovered by screening a biomimetic lipid library of thioethether lipids synthesizes by click chemistry. ScreenFect A is designed for use with cells in the exponential growth phase and can be used to transfect DNA or siRNA in a simple one-step protocol. Cells to be transfected are detached from their routine culture vessel and mixed with the ScreenFect A and DNA/siRNA complexes before transfer to a new culture dish or plate. Because ScreenFect A has low cell toxicity there is no need to change the culture media after transfection. ScreenFect A will even work in medium supplemented with serum so need to shock cells prior to transfection by switching to serum-free culture. ScreenFect A has been successfully used to transfects common cells lines such as HeLa, HEK293 and Cos-7, as well as more specialised cultures such as mouse embryonic stem cells, blood macrophages, microglia and primary cultures.

Some cells may require a two-step protocol to increase transfection efficiency.
