RNA Extraction Kit QuickGene RC-S Cultured Cell Kit 2 Small Pack of 96/48 Tests for Extraction of RNA from Cultured Cell Samples in 6cm/10cm Dish

QuickGene RC-S2 RNA Cultured Cell HC Kit, manufactured by Kurabo and supplied via FujiFilm Wako Chemicals, for isolation of total RNA from cells cultured in 10cm or 6cm dishes.

The QuickGene series of instruments and kits provides a novel, innovate method for DNA and RNA extraction from a vast number of sample types, all without the need for strong centrifugation steps, or centrifugation at all.

QuickGene operates in a similar manner to centrifugation methods, isolating nucleic acids from samples by forcing said samples through a hydrophilic membrane. This hydrophilic surface retains hydrophilic molecules, such as DNA or RNA, depending on the target, but does not retain hydrophobic molecules, such as proteins. The result is that unwanted molecules are washed through the membrane, whereas DNA or RNA are retained in the membrane and later eluted into collection tubes.

However, the major difference comes from the QuickGene porous membrane itself, which is 10 times thinner than conventional, usually glass fibre based, membranes. Traditional glass fibre membranes are approximately 1000µm in thickness and require large centrifugation forces to force samples through this thick membrane. QuickGene on the other hand, uses porous membranes only 100µm thick, developed using advanced polymer membrane production technology and requiring much weaker forces to move samples through the membrane, thus eliminating the need for centrifugation. This improves the preservation of the nucleic acids, increasing chain length, while retaining high nucleic acid purity and yield. The forces required are instead generated by compressed air, supplied by the QuickGene nucleic acid instruments.

This kit is compatible for use with the QuickGene-Mini480 (628-05969) nucleic acid extraction instrument and allows for isolation of total RNA from cells cultured in 10cm or 6cm dishes. Unlike some other kits, which often contain phenol and chloroform, QuickGene kits use non-hazardous organic solvents to provide a safer work environment. Once processed, the isolated and purified RNA is suitable for use in many downstream analyses including, among others: sequencing, PCR and digestion.
