CHIR99021 is a selective glycogen synthase kinase (GSK) 3β inhibitor. It does not cross-react with Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). It has been reported that when CHIR99021 is used with PD184352, SU5402 or PD0325901 it highly suppresses ES cell differentiation, enabling efficient culturing of ES cells whilst maintaining the differentiating potential.
