Product Information
Lipids in serum consist of triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, free fatty acids and fat-soluble components such as lipid-soluble vitamins and carotenes. Triglycerides plays an important role in metabolism as energy source and transporters of dietary fat.
Triglycerides are converted to glycerol-3-phosphate by lipoprotein lipase and glycerolkinase. Hydrogen peroxide, which is produced by a reaction between the glycerol-3-phosphate and glycerol-3-phosphate oxidase (GPO), promotes oxidative condensation of N-ethyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)-3,5-dimethoxyaniline sodium salt (DAOS) with 4-aminoantipyrine. This promotes the production of a blue pigment.
Using the LabAssay™ Triglyceride kit offered by Wako you are able to quantitatively determine the concentration of triglyceride in a sample by measuring the absorbance of the blue pigment released.
