Product Information
Cholesterol, a major component of cell membranes and the starting material in steroid synthesis in many animals, is a factor behind arteriosclerosis and other vascular diseases. Cholesterol concentration in serum is known to be closely related with production, absorption and dissimilation in liver and intestinal tract, and lipoprotein metabolism in blood.
Wako offers a Cholesterol assay kit to determine the total level of cholesterol by an enzyme reaction using N-Ethyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)-3,5-dimethoxyaniline sodium salt (DAOS).
Hydrogen peroxide produced by a reaction of cholesterol and cholesterol oxidase lets DAOS and 4-Aminoantipyrin oxidise and condensate, which generates a blue pigment. Quantitation of total cholesterol in the sample can be made by measuring the absorbance of the blue pigment.
