Product Information

CRP Ultra latex immunoassay for determination of C-Reactive Protein in serum or plasma 2x(2x20ml) manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a plasma protein named after its reaction with the C polysaccharide of pneumococcus, as discovered by Tillet and Francis in 1930. Like other acute phase proteins CRP is produced in the liver and released into the blood within a few hours of the start of infection or inflammation.

Increased CRP levels may be the first indication of inflammation or infection preceding pain, fever or other clinical indicators. Increased CRP levels are also observed following a heart attack, in cases of sepsis and after a surgical procedure. Although CRP is not a specific disease biomarker measuring CRP levels in blood can help with disease diagnosis and monitoring.

High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) blood tests may also be incorporated into cardiac assessment programmes. Atherosclerosis, the progressive hardening of arteries, is a long-term, low-level inflammatory process and results in production of small amounts of CRP. Therefore, individuals whose hs-CRP is at the upper end of the normal range may be at higher risk of developing arterial blockages.

The Sentinel CRP Ultra ready-to-use, liquid assay reagents use an immunoturbidimetric method to determine CRP in serum or plasma (heparin, EDTA). CRP in the sample is bound by anti-CRP antibody absorbed onto latex particles which results in agglutination. The increased turbidity resulting from the agglutination as measured at 570nm is proportional to the quantity of CRP in the sample.

Each kit contains 2x20ml Reagent 1 and 2x20ml Reagent 2.

The CRP Ultra assay can be run as a standard CRP assay using the CRP Calibrator set 11532 with a measuring range of 0.04-32mg/dL. To perform a High-Sensitivity CRP assay users will require the standard CRP calibrator set and the CRP US Calibrator 11533, the US Calibrator 0.25mg/dL is used as the lowest calibration level and the top level from the standard set (32 mg/dL) is not included in the calibration, the High-Sensitivity CRP assay has a range of 0.01-16mg/dL.

CRP Ultra reagents should be stored at 2-8C and have an on-board stability of 60 days with a calibration stability of 14 days.

A range of applications for clinical chemistry analysers are available - please enquire. The suggested QCs for this assay are the Immuno Control Set 11211A and the CRP Control US 11540 when running a high sensitivity assay.
