Product Information
Luteinising hormone (LH, lutrophin) is produced by the cells in the anterior pituitary gland. The follicular and luteal phases of menstruation are divided by a mid-cycle surge of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH and LH. This surge in LH triggers ovulation and is necessary to maintain corpus luteum function for the first two weeks of pregnancy. LH also stimulates the ovaries to produce oestradiol which serves as negative feedback to the pituitary gland to control the production of LH. At menopause the ovaries cease to function and LH levels rise.
Female:
Follicular phase: 1.5-8.0 mIU/mL
Ovulatory phase: 5.0-24.0 mIU/mL
Luteal phase: 0.2-6.5 mIU/mL
Menopausal: 16.0-90.0 mIU/mL
This assay is intended for the quantitative determination of LH in human serum or plasma for diagnostic use. This 96 well ELISA can provide up to 42 patient tests. LH in the sample is bound to the monoclonal antibody that is immobilised on the 96 well plate. The antigen-antibody complex is then reacted with anti-LH horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugate resulting in the LH antigen being sandwiched between the solid phase antibody and the enzyme conjugate. Then the enzyme HRP in the bound reaction reacts with the substrate to develop a blue colour which changes to yellow on addition of the stop solution. The colour intensity, as determined by reading absorbance at 450nm, is proportional to the concentration of LH in the sample.
