Product Information
Urea Liquid Assay manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics
Urea is the end product of amino acids catabolism and is in part reabsorbed in the glomerular filtration. It is an indicator of renal function. Blood urea levels can vary according to the protein content of the diet, hepatic function and protein catabolism during tissue breakdown.
Urea in the sample is hydrolysed by urease into carbon dioxide and ammonia, which in the presence of glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH), reacts with alpha-ketoglutarate and beta-NADH2 to form beta-NAD. Oxidation of beta-NADH2 changes the absorbance as measured at 340nm and this change in absorbance can be used to calculate the concentration of urea in the sample.
Urea Liquid is a dual reagent system: R1:3x65ml, R2:1x20ml, suitable for use with serum, plasma (EDTA, heparin) or urine. These ready-to-use, liquid reagents have an on board stability of 30 days at 2-8C and a calibration interval of 14 days. The measuring range is 3-300 mg/dL. The recommended calibrator for the Urea assay is the Clin Chem Calibrator 16550 and the suggested QCs for this test are the Clin Chem Controls 16150 and 16250.
