Syphilis antibody DIAQUICK Test Cassette immunochromatographic lateral flow assay for the qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to Treponema Pallidum (TP) in whole blood, serum or plasma samples, manufactured by Dialab.

The spirochete bacterium Treponema Pallidum (TP) is the causative agent of the venereal disease Syphilis. This bacterium has an outer envelope and a cytoplasmic membrane. Relatively little is known about the organism in comparison to other bacterial pathogens. Multiple clinical stages and long periods of latent, asymptomatic infection are characteristic of syphilis. Primary syphilis is defined by the presence of a chancre at the site of inoculation. The antibodies to the TP bacterium can be detected within 4-7 days after the appearance of the chancre and the infection remains detectable until the patient receives adequate treatment.

The DIAQUCIK Syphilis cassette utilises a double antigen combination of a syphilis antigen coated particle and syphilis antigen immobilised on membrane to detect TP antibodies (IgG and IgM) qualitatively and selectively in whole blood, serum or plasma.

Recombinant syphilis antigen is immobilised in the test line region of the cassette, after the specimen is added to the sample well it reacts with syphilis antigen coated particles in the test. This mixture migrates chromatographically along the length of the test and interacts with the immobilised syphilis antigens. The double antigen test format can detect both IgG and IgG in specimens.
If the specimen contains antibodies to TP a coloured line will appear in the test line region to indicate a positive result.

To serve as a procedural control a coloured line will always appear in the control line region indicating that the test has run correctly.
