Product Information

2-Methylisoborneol (MIB) Standard produced by FUJIFILM Wako Chemical Corporation

The mouldy odour produced by environmental pollution in rivers and lakes is due to metabolic products of various abnormally proliferated actinomyces and algae. Geosmin (1,2,7,7-tetramethyl-2-norborneol) in particular is considered to be the main compound responsible for offensive odours in tap water because it has a strong earthy or mouldy smell even in trace amounts. Geosmin and 2-Methylisborneol standards are commonly used in the analysis of drinking water as part of taste and odour quality testing.

This reference standard is intended for use in the analysis of 2-Methylisborneol.
