Product Information
The QuickGene series of instruments and kits provides a novel, innovative method for DNA and RNA extraction from a vast number of sample types, all without the need for strong centrifugation steps, or centrifugation at all. The QuickGene Automated series of instruments and reagents provides all of this in a fully automated package.
QuickGene operates in a similar manner to centrifugation methods, isolating nucleic acid from samples by forcing said samples through a membrane. This membrane has a hydrophilic surface and therefore retains other hydrophilic molecules, such as DNA or RNA depending on the target, but does not retain hydrophobic molecules such as proteins. The result is that unwanted molecules are washed through the membrane, whereas DNA or RNA are retained in the membrane and eluted into collection tubes.
However, the major difference comes from the QuickGene porous membrane itself, which is 10 times thinner than conventional, usually glass fibre based, membranes. Traditional glass fibre membranes are roughly 1000µm in thickness and require large forces, created by centrifugation, to force samples through this thick membrane. QuickGene on the other hand, uses porous membranes only 100µm thick, requiring much weaker force to push samples through the membrane. This force is generated by compressed air, supplied by the QuickGene nucleic acid instruments, such as the QuickGene Mini8L. The use of compressed air eliminates the need for centrifugation and allows weaker forces to be applied to the sample allowing for improved preservations, and therefore increased length, of nucleic acid chains, whilst the innovative membrane retains high nucleic acid purity and yield.
The QuickGeneAuto24S nucleic acid extraction device is designed for fully automated extraction of nucleic acids from samples of up to 200µL in volume. The Auto24S can process up to 24 samples at a time, taking just 20-50 minutes depending on reagents and samples. Simply load your samples into the instrument, select your program and the system takes care of the rest. Once processed, the isolated and purified DNA or RNA is suitable for use in many downstream analyses including, among others: next generation sequencing, HLA typing PCR, blotting, DNA micro arrays and digestion.
Through the use of the following corresponding QuickGene DNA and RNA extraction kits a wide variety of sample types can be processed, including:
