Product Information
Strep A DIAQUICK Test Cassette immunochromatographic lateral flow assay for the qualitative detection of Streptococcus pyogenes A antigen in throat swabs to assist in the diagnosis of Group A streptococcal infection, manufactured by Dialab.
Streptococcus pyogenes is a non-motile gram-positive cocci, which contains the Lancefield group A antigen that can cause serious infections such a pharyngitis, respiratory infection, impetigo, endocarditis, meningitis, puerperal sepsis and arthritis. Left untreated these infections can lead to serious complications including rheumatic fever and peritonsillar abscess. Traditional identification procedures for Group A SDtreptococci infection involve the isolation and identification of viable organiisms using techniques that require 24-48h. The Strep A DIAQUICK cassette for throat swab samples uses antibodies specific for whole cell Lancefield Group A Streptococcus to qualitatively detect the presence of Strep A carbohydrate antigen.
The Strep A DIAQUICK cassette test is a qualitative lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of Strep A antigen intended to be used with throat swab samples.
The membrane is pre-coated with antibodies to Strep A antigen in the test line region of the cassette. During testing the extracted throat swab specimen reacts with an antibody to Strep A that is coated onto particles. The mixture migrates chromatographically along the test strip towards the test line region.
Where Strep A antigen is present in the sample it reacts with anti-Strep A antibodies on the membrane to generate a coloured line, indicating a positive result.
Each cassette also contains a procedural control and a coloured control line will appear to confirm the test has run correctly. Failure of the control line to appear will invalidate the test.
