Total Thyroxine (T4) ELISA for serum or plasma Dialab

Thyroid function test panels typically include measurement of triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4), the thyroid hormones that control and regulate metabolism. In the blood most of the thyroid hormone is bound to protein but there is also a free, unbound fraction that is biologically active. Measurement of serum T4 concentration is generally regarded as a valuable tool in the diagnosis of thyroid dysfunction and is used to help diagnose hypothyroidism.

This assay is intended for the quantitative determination of total T4 in human serum or plasma for diagnostic use. This 96 well ELISA can provide up to 40 patient tests. T4in the sample competes with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled T4 for binding onto the limited number of anti- T4 sites coated on the microplate. After incubation, the bound/free separation is performed by a simple- solid-phase washing. The enzyme in the bound-fraction reacts with the substrate to develop a blue colour which changes to yellow on addition of the stop solution. The colour intensity, as determined by reading absorbance at 450nm, is inversely proportional to the concentration of T4 in the sample.
