Cholesterol High Density Lipoprotein (HDL-C) Liquid manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics

Cholesterol is transported in plasma via lipoproteins, namely complexes between lipids and apolipoproteins. High density lipoprotein (HDL) is one of four classes of lipoproteins (HDL, LDL, VLDL, chylomicron) and is responsible for the cholesterol uptake from the cells. HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) has a protective effect impeding plaque formation and shows an inverse relationship to coronary heart disease (CHD) prevalence. HDL-C measurement is used to evaluate the risk of arteriosclerosis.

The determination of HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) using the homogenous procedure is based on a novel methodology - the elimination method - which is more specific than the so-called blockage method. The elimination method consists of two specific steps. In the first step, chylomicron, VLDL and LDL fractions are eliminated under specific conditions so that cholesterol is derived only from HDL. In fact, these fractions are oxidised to cholestenone and hydrogen peroxide, which is subsequently degraded by catalase. In the second step, after various enzymatic reactions and in the presence of spec ific surfactants, remaining HDL-C can be measured specifically as a colour reaction (quinone), the intensity of which is proportional to the concentration of the HDL-C contained in the sample.

HDL Cholesterol Liquid is a dual reagent system, Reagent1:65ml and Reagent 2: 20ml are supplied ready to use. Typical on-board stability is 60 days and calibration stability is typically 14 days. The analytical range for this assay is 2.0 - 150 mg/dL.
