Product Information

17-beta-oestradiol (17-β-Estradiol) is the major form of oestrogen in humans, with critical impact of reproductive function and other organs including bone structure. During the reproductive years most oestradiol is women is produced by the ovaries, with smaller amounts also produced by the adrenal cortex. In men the testes produce oestradiol. Plasma oestradiol is largely bound to sex hormone binding globulin or albumin, only a faction is free and biologically active. Serum oestradiol measurement in women reflects primarily the activity of the ovaries and is used to help evaluate fertility and menstrual irregularities and monitor ovarian follicular function. Oestradiol is also involved in male fertility.
Normal levels:
Children <60 pg/ml
Men <40 pg/ml
Women Follicular phase: 30-100 pg/ml
Ovulatory peak: 130-350 pg/ml
Lutenic phase: 50-180 pg/ml
Menopause <60 pg/ml

This assay is intended for the quantitative determination of 17-β-Estradiol in human serum or plasma for diagnostic use. This 96 well ELISA can provide up to 40 patient tests. 17-β-Estradiol in the sample competes with 17-β-Estradiol-HRP for binding onto the limited number of anti-17-β-Estradiol antibodies coated on the microplate. After incubation, the bound/free separation is performed by a simple solid-phase washing step. Then the enzyme HRP in the bound reaction reacts with the substrate to develop a blue colour which changes to yellow on addition of the stop solution. The colour intensity, as determined by reading absorbance at 450nm, is inversely proportional to the concentration of 17-β-Estradiol in the sample.
