Product Information
1L Pharma Controlled Drug Denature Kit manufactured by Safer Options
As recommended by NHS England, all Controlled Drugs in Schedule 2, 3, and 4 (Part 1) should be destroyed by being denatured and rendered irretrievable before being placed into pharmaceutical waste containers. In line with the Misuse of Drugs Regulations (2001), the management and destruction of Controlled Drugs (CDs) in the health system is a shared responsibility between NHS England, service providers, regulators and the police, as the prompt and lawful destruction of obsolete CD stock is a matter of patient safety and public protection.
The Safer Options range of Controlled Drug Denature Kits often referred to as DOOP (Disposal Of Old Pharmaceuticals) or DOOM (Disposal Of Old Medicines) kits provide an easy to use solution for the safe management of waste controlled drugs as recommended by NHS England in “The Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) regulations 2013 Single Operating Model for compliance with the Misuse of Drugs Regulations(2001).
A broad range of kit options and sizes are available to suit different workplace demands.
Suitable for disposal of tablets, capsules, liquids, aerosols, and ampoules.
CD Denature Kit Dimensions: Height 131mm Circumference: 376mm
Pack of 6 x 1L CD Denature Kits
1. Ensure adequate access to water.
2. Do not break open the water-soluble sachet in the kit.
3. Tablets and capsules should be removed from their outer packaging and blister packaging and emptied into a CD denaturing kit filling no more than ½ of the container.
4. Liquid ampoules should be opened and as much content as possible emptied into the CD denaturing kit filling no more than ½ of the capacity of the container. Ampoules containing the CD in a powder form can be opened, water added to dissolve the powder, and the resultant mixture poured into the CD denaturing kit. The ampule can then be disposed of in the sharps bin.
5. Aerosol formulations should be expelled into water (to prevent droplets of drug entering the air). The resulting solution can then be disposed of in an appropriate CD denaturing kit.
6. The CD denaturing kit then should be filled to capacity with cold water.
7. Replace lid so the kit is sealed and shake thoroughly to ensure adequate mixing of the denaturing formula and waste drug product and water.
8. The contents of the kit will then congeal within 1 -2 minutes and denaturing will occur.
9. The kit should then be placed in a pharmaceutical waste bin for incineration as per hospital policy.
Safer Options CD Denature Kits are manufactured in the UK from components sourced from UK companies.
