Product Information
The BD Vacutainer® Citrate blood collection tubes with 3.8% buffered sodium citrate solution are used for routine coagulation studies. The tubes are available in a range of sizes in both plastic and glass and can be identified by a light blue cap.
This PET tube has a 2.7ml draw volume and measures 13mm diameter and 75mm height with a Trisodium Citrate (0.129M, 3.8%) additive within the tube. The light blue cap has the BD Hemogard™ tube closure, designed to protect from blood which may splatter when the tube is opened. The rubber stopper is recessed inside the plastic shield, preventing exposure to blood present on the stopper.
Trisodium citrate is used as an anticoagulant for coagulation investigations. It works as an anticoagulant by forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium inhibiting the coagulation cascade. Anticoagulation with trisodium citrate is reversible. Sodium citrate concentrations can have significant effects on APTT and PT assays especially with patients receiving IV heparin therapy and when responsive reagents are used. For this reason it is very important that laboratories determine their normal range of APTT and PT based on one citrate concentration and consistently use this concentration for all patient samples.
This product is provided in cases of 1000 tubes (10 packs of 100 tubes).
