BD Vacutainer® Sodium Fluoride and Potassium Oxalate Plus Tube with BD Hemogard™ Safety Closure Tubes (PET) 5ml

The BD Vacutainer® sodium fluoride and potassium oxalate Plus blood collection tube, are used to obtain a plasma sample, in which the glycolysis process has been inhibited. The PET tubes are available in a range of size and can be identified by a grey cap.
This PET tube has a 5.0ml draw volume and measures 13mm diameter and 100mm height, containing 2.5 mg/mL sodium fluoride and 2.0 mg/mL potassium oxalate additives, for the primary containment and preservation of specimens. The grey cap has the BD Hemogard™ tube closure, designed to protect from blood which may splatter when the tube is opened. The bromobutyl elastomer stopper is recessed inside the plastic shield, preventing exposure to blood present on the stopper.
The additive combinations of Sodium Fluoride and Potassium Oxalate are widely used in sample preservation for glucose determination. Glucose values in unpreserved blood decrease quickly after collection as glucose is metabolised by the blood cells, however, the additive fluoride, halts enzymatic activity of the glycolytic pathway.
To avoid micro-clotting, mix the sodium fluoride and potassium oxalate tube with 8-10 inversions immediately after the blood sample has been taken.
This product is provided in cases of 1000 tubes (10 packs of 100 tubes).
