Product Information
The BD Vacutainer® K2EDTA blood collection tube with a 1.8mg/mL EDTA concentration are used for routine coagulation studies. The PET tubes are available in a range of size and can be identified by a light purple cap.
This PET tube has a 4.0ml draw volume and measures 13mm diameter and 75mm height with a spray dried K2EDTA 1.8mg/mL additive within the tube as recommended by the ICSH (International Council Society of Haematology). The light purple cap has the BD Hemogard™ tube closure, designed to protect from blood which may splatter when the tube is opened. The rubber stopper is recessed inside the plastic shield, preventing exposure to blood present on the stopper.
EDTA salts (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) are widely used to anticoagulate whole blood for haematological investigations, as the cellular components of the blood are particularly well preserved by EDTA. The anticoagulation is achieved by the EDTA forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium, therefore inhibiting the coagulation cascade. Anticoagulation with EDTA is irreversible.
To avoid micro-clotting, it is recommended that the EDTA tubes are mixed by inverting them 8-10 times, immediately after taking the blood sample.
Provided in boxes of 100 tubes.
