Charomid 9-36 DNA produced by Nippon Gene and distributed via Wako Pure Chemicals.
Charomids are cosmid vectors bearing multiple copies of a 2kb spacer fragment. Like λ phage, charomids can be packaged in vitro for efficient introduction into bacteria offering high cloning efficiency comparable to that of lambda vectors. The Charomid vectors have 9 cloning sites (Aat II, EcoR I, Sac I, Sma I, Xba I, Apa I, Hind III), for charomid vectors of 28kb and 36kb there is no need to prepare vector arms, as may be necessary for some lambda vectors. Partial digestion should not increase the number of clones without inserts. Include AMPr gene for ampicillin tolerance. After isolation of a clone, the vector size can be reduced to 2.9kb by deletion of the spacer sequences.
