Leptin has a key role in regulating energy balance; controlling body fat mass through appetite suppression and an increase of energy metabolism. Manufactured primarily in white adipose tissue, leptin is a hormone inhibits appetite via receptors in the hypothalamus. Circulating leptin is directly proportional to total body fat. Leptin can also influence bone metabolism, fertility and angiogenesis.
