Gelling agents such as agar are routinely used to prepare solid or semi-solid plant tissue culture media. Soft agar with high water-holding capacity is used most frequently as base material for medium for each culture stage, including the basic media such as MS medium and White's medium that are employed for holding of callus or induction of re-differentiation.
Gel strength (1.5 %): 500 to 800 g/cm2
Transparency (1.5 %sol): min. 96 % (60°C, 655 nm)
