Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF) also known as Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 (FGF-2) or Heparin Binding Growth Factor (HBGF)-2 accelerates cell proliferation and differentiation. As such bFGF plays an important role in foetal development and postnatal growth. This cytokine is involved in the generation of neurons and has also been shown to support the maintenance of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells.

This is human recombinant bFGF (rh basic FGF) expressed in E Coli.
Lyophilised from a 1mg/ml solution of 5mmol/L Tris pH7.6 and 150mmol/L Sodium Chloride.

Biological activity: The ED₅₀ is less than 0.5ng/ml, determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF receptors, corresponding to a specific activity of >2x10⁶ units/mg protein.

Reconstitute in 5mmol/L Tris, pH7.6 to give a concentration of 0.1-1.0mg/ml. This working solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
