Thrombopoietin (TPO) is produced primarily in the liver, but is also expressed in the kidneys, bone marrow, small intestine, skeletal muscle and brain. In vitro, TPO stimulates and activates megakaryocyte colonies and also induces megakaryocyte proliferation and maturation. In vivo, the protein has been found to increase the concentration of circulating platelets. It has been suggested that TPO is an important hematopoietic factor that is involved in all facets of haematocyte production.

This is a cytokine manufactured without using animal materials in the culture and purification processes.

Biological Activity:The ED₅₀ is less than 0.1 ng.ml, determined by its ability to stimulate the proliferation of human MO7e cells, corresponding to a specific activity 1x10⁶ units/mg

Reconstitution: Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
