Calprotectin Testing Could Save the NHS
£65 Million!

A New Pathway for Faecal Calprotectin Testing in Primary Care BIVDA Report

A recent publication from BIVDA and Innovate UK identifies three simple tests that could save the NHS £6.9 Billion over a 5 year period if implemented more widely.

Faecal calprotectin is one of the tests heralded and it alone is estimated to offer savings of £65 million to the NHS. This could be achieved if calprotectin testing was more widely available to assist in the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). - 10/10/18

Changing the Game for Bladder Cancer Diagnosis ADXBLADDER

ADXBLADDER, an exciting new noninvasive test for bladder cancer from Arquer Diagnostics Ltd., was launched at the 2017 Societe Internationale D’Urologie (SIU) meeting in Lisbon.

The ADXBLADDER assay is a urine test that detects the presence of minichromosome maintenance (MCM5) protein, shed from tumours in the urogenital track. The test is performed by ELISA, a standard method for many assays in routine hospital laboratories and gives a simple yes/no answer. A single urine void is all that is required from the patient and results are not influenced by other conditions that can traditionally be present in these patients e.g. bacterial infection or the presence of blood.

New NICE Diagnostic Guidance

Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Tests Recommended for Primary CareHM-JACKarc

The new NICE DG30 guidance recommends that quantitative faecal immunochemical tests are adopted in primary care to guide referral for suspected colorectal cancer in people without rectal bleeding, who have unexplained symptoms, but do not meet the criteria for a suspected cancer pathway referral.

Alpha Laboratories' solution for FIT stool testing is the HM-JACKarc system which is a high throughput, fully automated system that provides quantitative faecal haemoglobin concentration results on a simple to use platform. The HM-JACKarc is recommended by NICE and in the evidence review, was reported with 100% sensitivity, 76.6% specificity, 6.1% positive predictive value and 100% negative predictive value for colorectal cancer. - 03/08/17

On Board with fCAL® turbo at Cumberland Infirmary

Consistent Results from High Throughput Assay fCAL Turbo User Report

In our latest user report Pamela Bowe describes the evolution of calprotectin testing in the Department of Biochemistry. With a workload increasing from 40 faecal samples a month to 200 in 4 years, the department has progressed through the Buhlmann faecal calprotectin assay range to cope with these numbers. Now using the fCAL® turbo on their Cobas 6000 analyser, they have found excellent precision in their results. Click the link below to find out more about their experience.

fCAL® turbo studies have been conducted all around Europe by BÜHLMANN Laboratories.
