Migration inhibitory factor-related proteins -8 (MRP8) and -14 (MRP14) form a heterodimer that may be used as a marker of inflammation. These MRP proteins are part of the S100 family and the MRP8/14 complex subunits, 8kDa and 14kDa, are also known as S100A8 and S100A9.
MRP8/14 is expressed mainly in peripheral blood neutrophils and monocytes, but not in resting tissue macrophages.
The LF-MRP25 Quantum Blue test is a quantitative lateral flow test designed to determine the level of calprotectin in serum and is used as a surrogate marker for the presence of elevated polymorphonuclear cells. MRP8/14 has been demonstrated to be an early and sensitive marker in patients with arthritis predicting response to therapy and disease relapse, in patients with cardiovascular disease and in helping to predict rejection transplant patients. The Quantum Blue tests are ideal for point of care settings or low volume throughput situations.
