STAT-NAT Malaria Screening Kit manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics.
Malaria is an infection caused by plasmodium parasites. Infected mosquitoes can pass the plasmodium parasite via their saliva when feeding on humans or animals and act as a disease vector spreading infection from one host to another. On entering the blood stream the plasmodium sporozoites migrate to the liver where they mature and reproduce. Species of Plasmodium that cause malaria in humans include P. falciparum, P. vivax, P.ovale and P.malariae; of these it is P.faciparum that causes the majority of fatal malaria infections. Rapid identification of the infecting species in order to provide the correct treatment has the greatest impact on prognosis in cases of severe malaria (produced by P. falciparum or mixed infection including falciparum).
The Sentinel STAT-NAT Malaria Screening Test is a multiplex, qualitative PCR test for identification of malaria infection by P. falciparum, P. vivax, P.ovale or P.malariae in DNA from serum and/or whole blood samples in EDTA. The STAT-NAT Malaria Screening test identifies the presence of malaria infection and additionally identifies the specific presence of P. falciparum enabling rapid treatment of this potential deadly species. The STAT-NAT stabilised amplification technology enables production of a thermally stable, lyophilised PCR assay mix containing Hot Start Polymerase, magnesium chloride (MgCl2), primers and dNTPs. The optimised PCR assay mix is pre-aliquoted into strips of 8x0.2ml PCR tubes and can be stored at 15-30C so will not take up valuable cold storage space. To run the assay just add DNA and sterile water to a final volume of 25µl and proceed with the PCR programme.
A typical PCR programme:
1 cycle: 94C for 2 min
40 cycles: 94C for 30s, 55C for 30s, 72C for 45s
1 cycle: 72C for 5 min

IVD CE Marked STAT-NAT DNA mix (1N001) is also available for other applications and assays. The thermostable, lyophilised and pre-aliquoted mastermix just needs addition of your chosen primers and template (25µl).
