Calcium Liquid Colorimetric Assay manufactured by Sentinel Diagnostics
Calcium is essential to cell function, with roles in muscle contraction, bone mineralisation and transmission of nerve impulses. Blood calcium measurement can assist in the follow up of patients with osteoporosis or kidney or nerve disease . Calcium may be of interest to those investigating nutrition, kidney, bone, nerve or cardiovascular diseases.
The Sentinel Diagnostics Calcium Liquid can be used to measure calcium in serum, plasma (heparin) or urine samples. This is a colorimetric method of determination. Calcium ions at pH>10 bind with cresophtalein complexone (CPC) to form a red coloured complex. The colour intensity is directly proportional to the concentration of calcium in the sample. Interference from magnesium is eliminated by the use of 8-hydroxy-quinoline.
The analytical range of this assay is 0.10-20.0 mg/dL. This assay is standardised in accordance with NIST (National Institute of Standards Technology). Use with Clinical Chemistry Calibrator (16550) and suggested QC materials are the Clinical Chemistry Controls, level 1 & 2 (16150, 16250). Calcium liquid is suitable for both manual and automated methods of determination. A manual method utilising a spectrophotometer to read at 600nm with a path length of 1cm is described in the instructions for use accompanying these reagents. Applications for some popular analysers are also available.
Store reagents at 2-8C. On-board stability is 30 days with a calibration interval if 14 days.
