Phos-tag Labelling

ProteinPhos-tagTM is a novel labelling system for analysis of phophorylation.  The Phos-Tag, developed by the Department of Functional Molecular Science at Hiroshima University, recognises the phosphate monoester group.  Phos-tag can therefore take the place of conventional enzyme immunoassay and radioactive isotope methods as an agent for capturing substances with a phosphate monoester group in phosphorylation analysis techniques.

Under neutral physiological pH conditions Phos-tag binds with an anionic substituent, the bond is especially strong with phosphomonoester di-anions making Phos-tag ideal for detection of phosphorylated substances and stabilising those phosphorylated compounds which were previously difficult to measure as a result of chemical instability.

The Phos-tag technology can be used in a number of innovative methods for separation, purification and detection.  Phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins are of key importance in signal transduction and regulate numerous functions within living organisms, therefore Phos-tag applications may be of interest to those researching regulatory pathways in numerous fields.
