The Methotrexate Assay Overview

The ARK Methotrexate Assay provides an accurate quantitative determination in human serum or plasma. The method is CE marked and can be used on automated clinical chemistry analysers. There are no reactions with the major metabolite 7-hydroxymethotrexate. ARK Methotrexate Assay reagents are in liquid, ready-to-use format and may be used directly from the refrigerator. Pack sizes have been designed to match the most typical laboratory workloads thereby maximising kit use and minimising waste. The key feature is the assays ability to measure very low values.

Clinical Importance

Methotrexate is an antimetabolite used in the treatment of certain neoplastic diseases, severe psoriasis and adult rheumatoid arthritis. It has potential for serious toxicity and patients undergoing Methotrexate therapy should be closely monitored so that toxic effects are detected promptly. Leucovorin is frequently used in conjunction with Methotrexate and is administered intravenously as "rescue". It is clinically important to be able to accurately measure levels of Methotrexate at levels below 0.1µmol/L. Guidelines for Methotrexate therapy with leucovorin rescue usually recommend continuance of leucovorin until the Methotrexate level falls below 0.05µmol/L
